Obituary for Maldonado

Fidel Maldonado, 86, of Albuquerque, beloved brother, daddy, and grandpa, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 10, 2000. He was born on September 15, 1913 to Josefita and Jose Maldonado in Torreon, NM, where the family lived until his graduation from the eighth grade, at which time they moved to Escobosa, NM. It was there, at a dance, that he met his first wife, Sofia Sandoval of Yrisarri, NM, with whom he had his 15 children. They married in 1933 and lived in Escobosa until 1940 when they moved to Albuquerque, where he worked as a truck driver until retirement. He was widowed in 1961 and remarried in 1965 to Lucy Garcia of Grants, NM. He lived 20 years with Lucy until she died in 1985. Soon after her death, Fidel was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, from which he died. He was preceded in death by three sisters; seven brothers; one daughter; and three sons; and is survived by four sisters; one brother; eight daughters; and three sons. He was blessed with 49 grandchildren; 74 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Fidel will be remembered for his playfulness, wisdom, strong conviction, and strength in the Lord. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at 7:00 p.m., and again on Wednesday, January 12, 2000, 1:00 p.m., at Aposanto Alto Praise Chapel, 2501 Alamogordo Drive NW. Interment will be at Mount Calvary Cemetery, 1900 Edith Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Rosendo Maldonado Jr., Randy Valdez, Joel Baca, Ruben Saavedra, Randy Gonzales, and Toby Maldonado. Honorary pallbearers will be Jason Casias, Isaac Plata, John Paul Lucero, and Lawrence Prieto.
