Obituary for Eriksen

Dorothy Carmichael Eriksen, 85, an Albuquerque resident since 1952, passed away January 5, 2000. Dorothy was born to Charley and Eula Shay on November 25, 1914, in Leeds, Missouri. She attended business college in Kansas City, Missouri and married Kenneth Carmichael in 1940. Following WWII the family moved to"God's Country" near Grand Lake, Colorado. Albuquerque became home in 1952 and both Dorothy and Ken worked for Sandia Labs. Subsequently, Dorothy worked for several local companies, including Paxton Lumber. Her interests included bowling and enjoying time at her cabin on the Chama River below Abiquiu Dam. In 1970, Dorothy was widowed, but later married Norm Eriksen, who also shared many of her interests until his death in 1992. Dorothy had been in poor health in recent years, and the family thanks all who have been kind and helpful, especially those at Lovelace Medical Center and the staff and residents of Vista del Rio Retirement Community. Survivors include daughters, Barbara J. Reed and husband, Bob of Riggins, ID and Sharon L. Copeland and husband, Shelby of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren, Glen Copeland and wife, Miriam of Albuquerque, Kenneth Copeland and wife, Catherine of Las Vegas, NV, Craig Schmuck of Kremmling, CO, Dee Gladding and husband, Chris of Sparks, NV, Jenny Schliep and husband, Richard, Renee Brossart and husband, Jim, and Kirk Kelly, all of Grand Lake, CO. Dorothy also had 13 great-grandchildren; two nieces; and one nephew. She was predeceased by one nephew, Eric Schmuck. Cremation has taken place. Arrangements by Strong-Thorne Mortuary and Fairview Memorial Park.
