Obituary for Schaefer

Charles F. Schaefer, a resident of Albuquerque from 1956 to 1965, died December 23 of natural causes in Brooksville, FL, at the age of 83. Charlie (or Chuck) was born in Veradale WA, to Richard Max Schaefer and Edith Kuchenbuch. He graduated from Washington State University with a degree in Economics and married Rita Leonard of Tacoma WA. Charles was a 30-year career US Air Force Civil Servant. He held prominent positions with Air Force Civil Service, notably Chief of Civilian Personnel at Patrick AFB, Kirtland AFB, and Eglin AFB. Mr. Schaefer was awarded the medal for Meritorious Civilian Service to the United States Air Force. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Richard Max Jr.; and his son, Charles. He is survived by his wife, Rita Schaefer, a prominent Florida artist and founder of the Fort Walton Beach Symphony Orchestra. Mr. Schaefer is also survived by his children, Nick Schaefer and wife, Sandy of Scottsdale AZ, Shirley Fry and husband, Hayden of Mesquite NV, George Schaefer of Gainesville FL, Rae Rudny and husband, John of Brooksville FL; his daughter-in-law, Gayle Schaefer of Jacksonville FL; five grandchildren, Lesley Humphrey, Bryan Griffin, Jayme Griffin, Suzanne Strader, Chaz Schaefer; and three great-grandchildren, Payden Griffin, Ashleigh Griffin, and Nicholas Humphrey.
