Obituary for Parkinson

Audrey Ellen Parkinson, 81, a resident of Albuquerque since 2000 and a longtime former resident of Maine. Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, died Wednesday, January 2, 2002. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, William W. Parkinson; daughters, Patricia Parkinson and husband, Bret Snyder, all of Albuquerque and Felicia Parkinson of Centreville, VA; son, Durward Parkinson and wife, Lori of Kennebunk, ME; grandchildren, Peter Noonan, Jr., Pamela Noonan, Rachel Parkinson, Katherine Audrey Perdue, Elizabeth Perdue, Emma Parkinson, Isabel Parkinson, Kendra Snyder and Lisa Snyder; and two great-granddaughters, Emily Noonan and Samantha Smedshammer. Mrs. Parkinson received a bachelor of Arts from Columbia University Teachers College and a Master of Arts from George Washington University. She was an administrative assistant at the War Manpower Commission in World War II and for Columbia University Teachers College. Mrs. Parkinson was a longtime elementary teacher, and was the leader of the Alexandria Education Association in Virginia. She was president of the Midcoast Hospital Auxiliary, Brunswick, ME. Mrs. Parkinson was a dedicated Navy Chaplains wife and a world traveler. She was co-editor of Merry Meeting Merry Eating Cookbook. Mrs. Parkinson was also a member of Central United Methodist Church. Cremation has taken place and private family services have been held. Interment of cremains will take place at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
