Obituary for Gray

Jessie Harris Gray passed away in her sleep Sunday morning, December 30, 2001 at the Aspen Care assisted living residence in Albuquerque, NM. Jessie was born October 1, 1903 in Chickasha, OK to Reuben C. Harris and Elizabeth Bradberry Harris. Jessie married A. Bainard Gray in 1923 in Lamesa, TX. They lived together in Socorro, NM, from 1930 until Bainard's death in 1969. In addition to Bainard, Jessie was preceded in death by brothers, Roy and Glenn Harris; sister, Maude Warnick; five children, Bainard Gray Jr., Jack Douglas Gray, Roger Neil Gray, Glen R. Gray, Kathleen Gray Hume; and a grandson, Robert Hume Jr. She is survived by a son in-law, Robert Hume of Albuquerque; a son and daughter-in-law, Gordon and Jane Gray of Abilene, TX; a daughter in-law, Carole Willis of Treasure Island, FL; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Jessie lived in Socorro until 1986; She was a charter member of the First Baptist Church of Socorro. She was also a member of the Eastern Star. She moved to Rio Rancho in 1986 to be closer to her daughter, Kathleen. In 1999, because of a failing health, she moved into Aspen Care in Albuquerque. Memorial Services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Rio Rancho, 3906 19th Ave SE, on Tuesday, January 8, 2002 at 11:00 am, Rev Si Budagher officiating. A graveside service will be held at the Socorro, NM, Cemetery at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2002 with Rev. Carl Russell officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jessie's name to the Rio Rancho Public Library or the Socorro Public Library. Services are under the direction of Strong-Thorne Mortuary.
