Obituary for Prouty

Robert "Bob" Curtis Prouty, aged 66, entered eternal life on Sunday, January 6, 2002, at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, New Mexico. Robert was born on November 1, 1935 in Enid, Oklahoma to Curtis O. and Vera Montgomery Prouty. Robert was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Elks Lodge #1119, and a lifetime member of the Rocky Mountain Elks Foundation. Robert served honorably with the U.S. Army and was discharged on March 28, 1956. He was employed by Mountain Bell and A.T.&T. Information Systems for thirty-one years, retiring in November 1986. At the time of death, Robert was employed by the U.S. Department of the Army, White Sands Missile Range. An avid athlete and sports fan, Robert graduated from Santa Fe High School in May 1953. While in High School Robert excelled in Basketball and Track, holding the New Mexico High School record for the high jump for several years. He participated in city league basketball and fast pitch softball for many years. Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, water skiing and golf. Robert was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Marie, of the family home; two sons, Scott Sloan and friend, Charlene of Santa Fe, NM, Boyd Prouty and wife, Helen of Las Cruces, NM; one daughter, Kimberly Floyd and husband, Walter of Farmington, NM; stepson, James Frangos and wife, Cinde of Amarillo, Texas, stepdaughter, Jana Stout and husband, Bobby of Las Cruces, NM; and stepdaughter, Lisa Virag and husband, Dominick of Las Cruces, NM. 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; one brother, Salem Prouty; and two sisters, Vera Lou Miller, and Frances Goode also survive him. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Floyd Curtis Prouty; and stepson, Nicholas Steven Frangos. Robert will be missed by his family and many friends that he has made along life's journey. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 9, 2002 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Getz Funeral home, 1410 E. Bowman. Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church with Dr. Larry Hall officiating, 225 West Griggs Avenue in Las Cruces, NM. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Las Cruces, NM. Serving as Pallbearers will be Don Childers, Russell Eddings, John McCloskey, Juan Najera, Michael Rivera, and Bobby Stout. In lieu of flowers donations may be made, in Robert's name, to the Ikard Memorial Cancer Treatment Center, the American Cancer Society or to a charity of your choice.
