Obituary for Bailey

Roy E. Bailey, age 83, died Friday, January 11, 2002. He is survived by his wife, Lola Bailey of Albuquerque; daughters, Sharon Richardson of Albuquerque, Shirley Bailey of Albuquerque, Joyce Christensen and husband, Tim of Farmington, NM, Joylene Young and husband, Mark of Leimen, Germany; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren; brothers, Loren Bailey, Richard Bailey, and William Bailey; sisters; Avonell Tillis and Darlene Woodrum. He was preceded in death by his son, Roy E. Bailey Jr.; one brother; and three sisters. Roy moved to Albuquerque from Ohio in 1958 to work for ACF Industries, which later became GE, where Roy retired from in 1983. Roy married Lola in 1939 at Mesa Temple in Mesa, Arizona. They enjoyed almost 63 years together. Roy served our country during World War II as a Master Sergeant in the Army. He was a member of the Honor Guard at the Potsdam Conference as part of the 2nd Armed Forces. Roy was a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge, a member of the Masons, and the American Legion Post #49. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter- Day Saints Manzano Ward. Roy was also an avid golfer and bowler. Above all of this, Roy was a family man a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Viewing will be held at Aspen Funeral Alternatives Chapel, 1935 Juan Tabo NE, Monday, January 14, from 6:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. Services will be held at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Manzano Ward, 12701 Indian School Rd. NE, Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 6301 Forest Hills Dr. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87110. The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Fred Kusomoto and the staff at Lovelace Hospital for the wonderful care Roy was given.
