Obituary for Cooley

Daniel William Cooley, 54, a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died peacefully in his sleep at home early Tuesday morning February 12, 2002, of congestive heart failure following a seven year battle with a rare lung disease. He was preceded in death by his mother Kathleen Cooley; his sister Penny Cooley Kleppe; and his son Daniel William Cooley II. He is survived by his wife Paula J. Cooley of Albuquerque, NM; brother Peter R. Cooley of Albuquerque, NM; father in law Walter J. Norris of Silver City, NM; brothers in law Jerry Kleppe of Fayette, Iowa and Michael B. Norris of Silver City, NM; five nephews, Richard Cooley and wife Angie of Evansville, IN, Peter Cooley of Albuquerque, NM, Clark Kleppe and wife Tracey of Avondale, AZ, Scott Kleppe of Chicago, IL, and David Kleppe of Phoenix, AZ; three nieces , Kimberly Stroud and husband Rusty of Avondale, AZ, Kara Burns and husband Rob of Fayette, Iowa, and Leilani Heying and husband Steve of Palmdale, CA; and a pet rabbit named"Buns". Dan was born August 9, 1947, in Lyman, Mississippi and moved with his family to Albuquerque, NM at the age of 2. He grew up in the South Valley and graduated from Lourdes High School in 1965. Dan proudly served his country twice. He was a Corporal in the United States Marine Corps and went to Vietnam. He later served as a Sergeant in the Army and went to Korea. Dan was a printer by trade who owned and operated his own print shop in Albuquerque. Dan enjoyed flying airplanes, racing motorcycles and cars, going to the horse races, and gambling at casinos. Most of all Dan enjoyed spending time with his family and close friends. Cremation has taken place and private services were held at Dan's request with French Mortuary on Lomas handling the arrangements.
