Obituary for Burns

Roy P. (Pat) Burns, age 75, of Santa Fe passed away at home on February 23, 2002, following a lengthy illness. Mr. Burns was born in Nara Visa, New Mexico, on April 12, 1925. After completing his high school education at St. Joseph's Military Academy in Hayes, KS, he served in the United States Navy during World War II and later graduated from the University of New Mexico with a degree in civil engineering. He was employed by the New Mexico Highway Department and retired as the Operations Officer in 1983 after 33 years. He then opened a branch of Lochner Consulting Engineers of Chicago in Santa Fe and operated that office for 12 years while also operating a cattle ranch in Nara Visa until his death. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Melva French Burns; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Peggy Burns of Clovis, NM; daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Robert Grann of Arlington, TX, and Linda and Kevin King of Corsicana, TX; grandchildren, Kevin and Ricky Burns, Calloway and wife, Tonya Clark, Ronnie and wife, Jodi Clark, Megan, Caitlin and R.P. Grann, and Brett, Christopher, and Savanah King; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers John and wife, Betty Burns of Seattle, WA, and Robert and wife, Pat Burns of Nara Visa, NM ; sister, Virginia and husband, Joe Schwind of Amarillo, TX; sister-in-law, Betty F. Gambrel of Santa Fe; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will begin on Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at 4:00 p.m. where a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. at Berardinelli Family Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, February 27, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at Santa Maria de la Paz Catholic Community. Interment will follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a favorite charity. Arrangements are under the direction of Berardinelli Family Funeral Service, 1399 Luisa Street, 984-8600.
