Manuel B. Toledo, 86 a lifelong resident of Albuquerque, died Friday, March 1, 2002. He is survived by his sister, Maggie Otero and husband, Johnny of Peralta; daughter, Gloria Candelaria and husband, Paul of Houston, TX; son, Richard M. Toledo and wife, Rosemary of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Paul Candelaria Jr. and wife, Angela, Bonnie Ingram and husband, David, all of Houston, TX, Eric A. Toledo and wife, B.J. and Charissa Robin Grigsby and husband, Chris, all of Albuquerque; and five great-grandchildren. His lifelong wife, Betty Gabriel passed away in 1991. He was born June 17, 1915 in Albuquerque but spent his youth in Peralta and Los Lunas, NM. He was the child of Ramon Toledo and Sofia Baca of La Ladera, NM. Manuel was a graduate of Menaul High School and received both his BA and MA at UNM. After graduating UNM, he worked as a teacher in Seboyeta, NM and was a surveyor for the government in Deming. During the early 40's, he moved his family to Idaho where he worked in the agricultural industry. In 1950, he returned to Albuquerque and spent the remainder of his professional career in the field of education. During this time, he served as Superintendent of Los Lunas Consolidated Schools and Director of Special Services in the Bernalillo Public Schools. In tandem with his educational career, he began building a rental business. This business ultimately became his focus. His experience in the rental business has spanned 43 years. Throughout his many experiences, he always remained connected to Menaul High School. It is his belief that the support shown by teachers and administrators at the school provided the foundation for his later success in life. Throughout the years, he has served as an active alumni to the school and had also been a board member. This connection allowed him to be actively involved in the Second Presbyterian Church in Martineztown. Both of these institutions played a critical role in setting his path for patience and understanding, as he dealt with others both in business and in education. Services will be held Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at Second Presbyterian Church, 812 Edith Blvd. NE, with Pastor Jaime Quinones officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 924 Menaul Blvd. NE. Pallbearers will be Victor Gabriel, Chris Grigsby, Paul M. Candelaria, Steven Otero, Michael Otero and Fred Gabriel. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
