J. Edward Chavez, "Lalo," passed away peacefully from this life on Friday, March 15, 2002. He goes home to join his beloved Margaret and son Richard, and his only brother Silviano, who awaited his return and received him with loving arms with all the Joy of Heaven that awaits us all. Born September 16, 1917 in Lumberton, New Mexico to Jose and Delfina Chavez. He graduated high school in Chama, New Mexico where he lettered in basketball and boxing. He attended a few semesters of college at the old St Joseph College. He also played the saxophone with his brother who played the guitar. He was an avid sports fan, hunting, fishing and camping gave him special joy. He was also a season ticket holder to Lobo basketball for many years. He worked for the US Postal Service for many years where he retired in 1975. His talents were many, he was a"jack of all trades" and master of most. He was a very accomplished silver smith and stonecutter in Indian jewelry making. He loved the craft and especially enjoyed giving his work away.
