Obituary for Jacobs

Henry L. Jacobs, 1921 - 2002, born in California, Missouri. Parents, Julia Sarman Jacobs, Eugene A. Jacobs; brothers, William F. Jacobs, Eugene Jacobs; sister, Virginia Lous Jacobs, preceded Henry in death. One relative, Claudia McAlevey of Woodland Hills, CA, survive him. Henry graduated from California Missouri High School in 1939. Entered the military in 1942 and served in the Pacific Theater with the 1st Cavalry division from Australia to Tokyo from 1942-45. Preceded in death by wives, Evelyn Lynn Jacobs and Ann Sebring Jacobs. He came to New Mexico in 1946 to attend the University of New Mexico in 1946 where he obtained a B.S. Degree in 1950. M.S. Degree in 1955, he was a member of the S.A.E. Fraternity, an Alumni Letterman's Club, a four year letterman in baseball, business manager of the university newspaper, the Lobo, in 1949-1950. Henry played professional baseball, taught and coached in Albuquerque Public Schools from 1951-1981, received the Baseball Coach of the Year award for District 6 in 1973 from the National High School Coaches Association. He taught and coached at Jefferson Junior High School from 1951-1960, as well as Manzano High School from 1960-1981. Henry liked to fish, hunt and play golf, he attended many athletic events traveling extensively in the U.S. he was a baseball scout for the Milwaukee Braves, New York Mets, and Cincinnati Reds. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 23, 2002 at 4:30 p.m. in Palm Chapel of Strong-Thorne Mortuary 1100 Coal Ave SE with Pastor Larry Pierson officiating. The body of Mr. Jacobs will then be taken to California, Missouri, for services and interment. Strong-Thorne Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
