Obituary for Dean

Bruce E. Dean, aged 93, passed away on March 23, 2002. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Bertha of Moriarty, NM. They were married May 14, 1939. Bruce was born on October 24, 1908 in Bessie, TX. To Charley and Katie (Johnson) Dean. Bruce's grandfather, James Alfred Dean, was one of Texas First families residing in Texas before February, 1846 when it was still The Republic of Texas. Bruce moved with his family to a ranch near Capitan, NM in 1911. He had wonderful childhood memories of living there. They moved to Moriarty, NM in 1933 where Bruce was active in the community. Mr. Dean farmed in the Estancia Valley for many years and owned a dairy. He operated a Moriarty Texaco Station and later worked as a custodian for the Moriarty Schools. Bruce helped to establish the Torrance County Senior Citizen Organization, served on the Board of Directors' of Older Americans Advisory Council and was very active in the local Senior center. He was awarded certificates of appreciation by the Middle Rio Grande council of Governments of New Mexico for his outstanding service to Senior Citizens in 1981 and 1982. Bruce enjoyed traveling and visiting many states in the RV with his wife Bertha. He was a long time supporter of the New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch and the Baptist Children's Home. He was a 1928 graduate of Albuquerque High School. Mr. Dean was a Christian and witnessed for Him throughout his life. He read his Bible daily and was active in the First Baptist Church of Moriarty. He is survived by a son; Dr. Allen Dean and wife, Cheryl of Albuquerque; daughters, Peggy Dunlap and husband, Michael of Plano, TX and Judy Spangler and husband, Randall of Dallas, TX.; a sister, Ellis Neel of Albuquerque and a brother, Rev. Crile Dean and wife, Zelda of Pamona, CA; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Harris-Hanlon Chapel in Moriarty. Services will be on Wednesday, March 27, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Moriarty; Dr. Kenneth Long will be officiating. Burial will be in the Mountain View cemetery in Moriarty. Arrangements will be by Harris-Hanlon Mortuary in Moriarty. In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Mexico Boys and Girls Ranch Foundation, 6209 Hendrix Rd.
