Obituary for Scully

Martin H. Scully, 86, a 32 year resident of Rio Rancho, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2002. Martin was born June 16, 1915 the son of John F. and Emily Loughran Scully in New York City, New York. Martin married Alice Mae Petroske on October 19, 1940 at Blue Point, Long Island. They settled first in Queens, New York, then in Westbury, Long Island to raise their family. Martin was a thirty year employee of the N.Y.C. Transit Authority, rising to the rank of Cable Foreman. Martin and Alice retired to Rio Rancho in 1970, becoming members of St.Thomas Aquinas Parish, charter members of the Rio Rancho Golf and Country Club. Martin also became a member of the local Lions Club. Martin was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Alice in 1997. He is survived by his children, Patricia Riegger and husband, George of Farmingville, NY, Marilyn Scully of Rio Rancho, and Richard Scully and wife, Vicki of Arlington, TX; one sister, Mary Martin of Riverdale, NY; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his dear friend, Dorothy Drypolcher of Rio Rancho. Visitation will be Monday, April 1, 2002 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Vista Verde Mortuary, Sara Rd. at Meadowlark Ln., Rio Rancho. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 2, 2002 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Martin's grandson, The Rev. Patrick Martin Riegger as the celebrant.
