Obituary for Vliet

Warren Thomas Vliet, 77, a resident fo Rio Rancho for the past 12 years, passed away on Sunday, March 31, 2002. Warren was born October 12, 1924 the son of Willard S. and Mabel Emmons Vliet in Elizabeth, New Jersey. He and his wife, Barbara came to New Mexico from Westfield, New Jersey. He was partner and treasurer for K-H-V Insurance Agency before retiring. Warren volunteered with the Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau and thoroughly enjoyed promoting New Mexico. He was located at the Old Town Office. He was a member of the Rio Rancho Country Club and the Senior's Tennis group. He enjoyed skiing and painting local scenes, and following sports, especially baseball. He was a member of the Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church. He is remembered as a wonderful husband and a great father. Warren was preceded in death by two brothers, Alan Vliet and Robert Emmons Van Vliet. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara"Bobby" Vliet of Rio Rancho; four children, Anne Merkley of Granville, OH, Elizabeth Vliet of Albuquerque, Susan Vliet of Rio Rancho, and Thomas Vliet of Albuquerque; four grandchildren, Sarah Richard, Callie Martin, Scott Merkley and Meredith Merkley; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at 3:00 p.m. at the Rio Rancho Presbyterian Church , 1004 24th Street, Rio Rancho, with The Rev. Dr. Lawrence R. Hitchens officiating.
