Obituary for Contreras

Eluteria (Lou) Garcia-Contreras, 92, passed away, February 25, 2002 at Issaquah, WA. Born February 9, 1910 in Albuquerque, New Mexico Territory, the daughter of Santos Garcia and Delfinia O'Donnell-Garcia. She graduated from Holy Trinity High School, Trinidad, Co. She cared for her four children while her husband, Eligio Contreras served in the U.S. Navy in World War II. She loved her native Albuquerque but was willing to establish a new home for her family in Seattle to be with her husband who joined the Boeing Company in 1948. He preceded her in death in 1982. Her devotion to her family was manifested in many ways. She also reared a foster child to adulthood. A devout Catholic, she was a member of St. Benedict Parish in Seattle until her death. She was a volunteer at Providence Hospital for over 20 years. She bowled on a team until just 3 years ago, and participated in the YWCA water aerobics program in downtown Seattle. Revered by her grandchildren, two of them opened a restaurant in Belltown, Seattle, named in her honor, call Tia Lou's, serving some of her favorite recipes. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by; brother, Ben Garcia, Denver; Margaret Chavez, Albuquerque; and Merle Davis, Moriarty, NM. She is survived by; her children, Alberta Urrea and husband, Francisco, Jr.; Dr. Eligio Contreras, Jr. and wife, Carol; Marie Sanchez and husband, Ray, Albuquerque; Santos Contreras and wife, Sue, Kirkland, Washington; Duane Drew, Forrest City, NC; grandchildren, Trey Urrea and wife, Lisa; Tessa Munz and husband, Vern; Tom Urrea and wife, Valerie Borrego; Rick Urrea and wife, Beth; Matthew Urrea and wife, Annabel, Daniel Urrea, Kiko Contreras and wife, Lora, Fina Day, Albuquerque, Tina Leonard and husband, Scott, Taos, Lynn Havens and husband, Jon, Sue Giardiello and husband, Mario, Denver, Lleigh Brunner and husband, Terry, Santa Fe, Greg and Eric Contreras, Anne Frost, Elena Sanchez, Seattle, Dr. Elisa Frost-Granger and husband, Dr. Rick Granger, Minneapolis, MN; sister, Bessie Gutierrez; brother, Ernest Garcia, Albuquerque; 18 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. In charge of arrangements, Fisher-Harvey Funeral Home in Seattle. A Mass in memory of Mrs. Contreras will be celebrated at Our Lady of Annunciation Church, 2610 Utah NE on Saturday, April 27, at 8:30 a.m. Following the mass, a reception for family and friends will be held at 1602 Griegos NW.
