Obituary for Stiteler

Judith Miller Stiteler, 61, born in Trinidad, Colorado, October 11, 1940, passed away on April 18, 2002 at her home in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She attended Peru Prep and Peru State College, receiving her BA in 1961. She was a violin student of Victor Jindra from the age of eleven and majored in music at Peru. She taught strings in the public schools of Fort Morgan, Colorado in 1964. After receiving her MA from LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1963, she moved to Albuquerque, performing with the Albuquerque Chamber Orchestra and the New Mexico Symphony, as well as teaching strings in Albuquerque Public Schools. In 1965, Judith and David Stiteler were married, and Albuquerque was their home for 37 years. When arthritis curbed Judith's violin performances, she decided to pursue a nursing degree and went back to school at the age of 47. She received her BSN from the University of New Mexico in 1989, and worked for the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Albuquerque until Dave's retirement in 1992. After retirement, Dave and Judith traveled the world, riding camels in the Middle East, spending 11 months in South East Asia, sending e-mails from China, and voyaging to the Arctic Circle and the Antarctic. Judith's last visit abroad was in December, 2001, when she returned from a scuba diving trip in Belize where she earned her advanced open water scuba certification. Judith is survived by; her husband, David; son, Adrian, daughter-in-law, Sissy; and grandson, Caleb of Carlsbad, New Mexico; daughter, Rachel of Albuquerque; brother, Hanford Jr. of Cowdrey, Colorado; and a multitude of friends and family around the world. Her special talent for connecting with people will be sorely missed. She was preceded in death by her parents Hanford and Edith Miller of Peru, Nebraska; and a brother, David Miller of Bloomfield, Iowa. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Judith's life will be held at Seagull Street restaurant in Albuquerque on April 27, 2002 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Judith's name may be made to the Chamber Orchestra of Albuquerque, 2730 San Pedro NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico 87110.
