Obituary for Mckiernan

Jeannette McKiernan, 79, died April 20, 2002 after a brief illness. Born in Des Moines, Iowa to Helen and Julius Spencer Hagen, she was the youngest of eight children. Jeannette was educated in Des Moines pubic schools and graduated from North High School in 1941. She worked for five years with Meredith Publishing Company. She married John McKiernan on August 26, 1945. Her life after marriage centered on her family and church. John and Jeannette moved to Albuquerque in 1951, and made their home in the same location for over 50 years. Jeannette was a member of Monte Vista Christian Church, where she was active in Women's Ministries, Sew 'n Sew, as a shepherd and a deaconess, on the history committee, and as an office volunteer. In addition, she volunteered at Musical Theatre Southwest in the office and as an usher. Over the years she was a leader in several Parent-Teacher Associations, Girl Scouts, and Cub Scouts, and active and generous with friends. She is survived by her husband, John; children, Kathleen Hamilton (son-in-law, Bobby) of Rio Rancho, Linda McKiernan-Allen (son-in-law, Ron Allen) of Indianapolis and John McKiernan (daughter-in-law, Marianne) of Denver; seven grandchildren, Karin, Canaan, Genesis, Moriah, Benjamin, Barek, and Sabbath; and one great-grandchild, Christopher. Her expanded circle of family and friends includes her sister-in-law, Helen Hagen; many nieces and nephews; many dear friends in the Kum Dubbles Sunday School class, and other friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Presbyterian Hospice for their kindness and care during Jeannette's illness. A Service of Thanksgiving for her life will be held on May 1, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at Monte Vista Christian Church.
