Obituary for White

George P. White, 93, died Wednesday, May 15, 2002. He is survived by his daughter, Dorothy Martin of Ridgecrest, CA; grandchildren, Tamie Urbano and husband, Pau and Heather Martin; great-granddaughter, Tyler Urbano; brother, Michael W. White of Albuquerque and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna R. White, on December 13, 1995; brothers, Ule White, James White, Ralph White and Pat White and sisters, Viola Lynch, Florence Sanders and Virginia Brady. Mr. White was born in Minong, WI on Wednesday, September 23, 1908. He served in the US Navy during WWII. Mr. White married Anna Ruth Wahl on June 30, 1937 and they moved to Grants, NM around 1950, where he was school administrator. He was Superintendent of Schools in Santa Fe from 1952 to 1954 and State Assistant Superintendent of Public Instruction. Mr. White was Superintendent of Schools in Ruidoso from 1963 to 1970. He was also Village Counselor and Mayor of Ruidoso for six years. Mr. White was a member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, American Legion, DAV, Elks Club and the OSS Club. Cremation has taken place and Memorial Rosary will be recited Tuesday, May 21, 2002, 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Memorial Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 22, 2002, 9:00 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School NE. Interment will take place as Santa Fe National Cemetery.
