Obituary for Torres

Hilario J."Lalo" Torres a lifelong resident of Bernalillo passed on to his eternal life, Thursday, June 13, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Helen Torres; sons, Joe H. Torres and wife Orlinda, Jack S. Torres and wife Anna; daughters Margie Amiot and husband Steve, Gina Torres all of Bernalillo, and Liz Kirschner and husband Joel of Albuquerque; grandchildren Catarina, Hilario and Aurora Torres, David and Joseph LePre, Mario and Carlos Torres and Richie Kirschner; brother Richard Torres; sisters Lala de Baca and husband John, Pauline Blechner and husband, Al; and numerous relatives and friends. Lalo was a devoted member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. He owned and operated a grocery business for over 50 years. He served as Mayor of Bernalillo for 18 years, State Senator and Board Member of numerous social and political organizations. Lalo was instrumental in many improvements in the town including bringing the First Bank, Medical Clinic, Industrial Park and swimming pool, among many other projects. Lalo served honorably during WWII in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Rotary Club, Board of Education, Democratic Party Leadership and St. Joseph Hospital Board to name a few. Rosary will be recited Sunday, June 16, 2002, 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Bernalillo. Mass will be celebrated Monday, June 17, 2002, 12:00 noon at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Ron Abousleman, Gary Abousleman, Hilario Torres, Mario Torres, David LePre, Steve Amiot, Pedro Atencio and Carlos Pino. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Alan Firestone, Gene Lermuseaux, Ruben Miera, Ken Brown, George Perez, and Reuben Montoya. Friends may visit Sunday, June 16, 2002, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE.
