Obituary for Arky

Louis Herman Arky, 78, died at the VA Hospital on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his children, John, Nicholas, Steven, and Lauren; and cousins, Ann Zar-Taub and Allan Zar, with whom he grew up. Lou served in the Air Force during WWII and was stationed in the South Pacific. He earned a Ph.D. in History, Economics and English from the University of Pennsylvania and pursued a business career in insurance, securities, real estate and commodities brokerage. He enjoyed the outdoors, landscape photography, bicycling, and the study of political and historical issues, and was known for his intelligence, flamboyance, and sense of humor. Lou was an outspoken proponent of courage and toughness, which was amply demonstrated in his struggles of the last few years. He will be greatly missed by friends and associates in the U.S. and around the world. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 23, 2002 at Chabad of New Mexico, 4000 San Pedro Dr, NE, Albuquerque, NM.
