Obituary for Salce

"It is to sow seeds with tenderness and reap the harvest with joy." - Kahil Gibran. Virgilio Americo Salce, 89, a lifelong resident of Corrales, passed away on Saturday, July 6, 2002. Virgil was born June 19, 1913 the son of Angelo and Maria Nechiari Salce in Corrales, New Mexico. He had been a farmer his entire life until retiring. Virgil was preceded in death by his wife, Cathleen in 1992. He is survived by three children, Richard Salce of Rio Rancho, Bertha Astorga and husband, Joe of Las Vegas, NV, and Vivian Bonner and husband, Carl of Alameda, NM; one sister, Lena Apodaca of Corrales, NM; six grandchildren, Shawn Steele and husband, Charles of Rio Rancho, Shannon Ash and husband, Jeff of Belen, Nathan Shapiro of Las Vegas, NV, Gail Clark and husband, Marcus of Albuquerque, Cheryl Johnson and husband, Jerome of Corrales, and Michelle Ziegler and husband, Josh of Corrales; twelve great-grandchildren, Chance and Parker Steele, Maggie and Sarah Ash, N.J. and Dakota Shapiro, Ericka, Brooke and Adrionna Bender, Trent and Paige Ziegler, and Christopher Clark; step-granddaughter, Feline Koen and husband, Tom of Albuquerque, step-great-grandchildren, Ashli, Lindsi, and Natali Koen and Ayla"Dynamite" Astorga. A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 11, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at San Ysidro Catholic Church in Corrales with Fr. Clarence Galli as the celebrant. It has been suggested that contributions be made in Virgil's name to the Arthritis Foundation of New Mexico, 124 Alvarado Dr. SE, Albuquerque, NM 87108. Cremation arrangements handled through Vista Verde Mortuary, Rio Rancho, 892-9920.
