Obituary for Roberts

Orville Kenneth Roberts, 79, passed away peacefully July 15, 2002, following a brief hospitalization. He died with his children and grandchildren at his side. He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Fanny Luella; brother, Austin E. Roberts; and sister, Peggy Sheets. He was born August 22, 1922 in Elida, New Mexico where his father was Postmaster. He was a 1941 graduate of Albuquerque High, captain of the football team, and the first student to ring the coveted victory bell. He attended UNM where he joined the Phi Kappa Alpha fraternity. His attendance was cut short, being called to active duty in the Navy. He was stationed on Manus Island as a radio operator. Upon returning from the Navy, he and his wife Fanny settled down in Albuquerque to raise children and pursue his career. He joined Albuquerque National Bank as a mailroom clerk and was promoted to Head Teller. In the early 60's, he joined his father-in-law, T.J. Seneker to become President of New Mexico Loan and Mortgage Company, until he retired in 1987. He is survived by two brothers and their families, James Roberts and wife, Leah of Bentonville, AR; Don Roberts and wife, Martha of Gaithersburg, MD; sister, Ruth Ann Glass and husband, David of Bentonville, AR; children, David Roberts and wife, Marlene, Ruth Rivera and Bruce Roberts, all of Albuquerque; grandchildren, Sean Roberts and wife, Teresa, Kelly Martin and husband, Rick, Grant Roberts, Keith Rivera and wife, Shelley, Donovan Rivera and wife, Maggie and Niki Padilla; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and his dear friends and neighbors, Magi and Dick Ezzard and John and Holly Truitt. Orville Kenneth Roberts dearly loved his family, bore the true mark of a man, brave and witty until the end, he shall be sorely missed. Remembrances however, will keep him near to all those who knew him. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held Friday, 1:00 p.m., at Mt. Calvary Cemetery Chapel 1900 Edith NE, with Pastor Ken Moore officiating. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions honoring Orville be sent to a charity of your choice.
