Obituary for Pettine

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Monday August 19, 2002

Ernestine G. Pettine. It is with joy and confidence in the Lord that we announce that Ernestine Pettine has passed from this life to her heavenly reunion with her husband, Henry; and her daughter, Sylvia. Anyone who had the privilege of knowing Ernestine will remember her as a remarkable wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Born June 28, 1914 in Boone, CO, and the eldest of 21 children. She married her high school sweetheart, Henry (aka"Peter Pan") in 1933. Together they made a great team and lovingly raised their children, and upon Sylvia's death, raised her children also, Shirley, Michael, Ronnie, Yvette and Albert Sena. Remarkable for her perseverance, faith in the Lord, talent and resiliency, she lived life with gusto. She was an avid reader, fisherwoman, seamstress, bridge player and cook. She was a grand and great mother. She inspired us with her wit and wisdom, generosity, ability to listen, her extreme organization and her unconditional love. Her subtle humor and skill as a story teller taught us what it is to be a Pettine and Gallegos. Her fighting spirit, particularly in the face of recent and serious health issues, heartened friends, family and health providers. She was the heart and soul of the family as they strive to make her proud. She would have the family acknowledge the many people who brightened her days with a kind word or a gentle touch. Special thanks and tender good-byes each of you. Ernestine was survived by her daughter, Yvonne Pettine-Padilla and her husband, Wilfred; son, Henry Pettine Jr. and his wife, Janice; sisters, Vida Guttman, Mary Lou Gutierrez, Anita Martinez; brothers, Mickey Gallegos, Marvin Gallegos and his wife, Elizabeth; sister-in-laws, Elizabeth Johnson, Casey and Lou Gallegos; grandchildren, Brian Padilla and his wife, Lorie, Chad Padilla and wife, Lorraine, Carlo and Dominic Pettine, Albert Sena and his wife, Marya, Shirley Archunde and her husband, Phillip, Michael, Yvette and Ronnie Sena; her well loved great-grandchildren, including Aubry Padilla, whom she enjoyed a special bond; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. A Rosary and Mass will be held at the Sangre de Cristo Church, 8901 Candelaria NE, Albuquerque, NM.
