Obituary for Hernandez

Pete C. Hernandez, died peacefully among his loving and adoring family on Thursday, September 12, 2002. He was born in Alamogordo on December 4, 1927. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Cordelia Hernandez; daughter, Gloria Koury and husband, Jerry of Tucson, AZ; son, Chris Hernandez and wife, Lucia of Edgewood; daughter, Teresa Godfrey and husband, Bryan of Albuquerque and Elena Hernandez of Phoenix, AZ; grandsons, Alex Koury of Denver, CO and Peter Koury of Tucson, AZ; sister, Pilar Llamas and husband, Joe of Albuquerque; and nephews, Joe and David of Albuquerque. He was preceded in death by his father, Simon Hernandez in 1950 and mother, Feliciana Hernandez in 1997. Mr. Hernandez was valedictorian of his graduating class at Alamogordo High School in 1945. Pete served as a soldier in the United States Army and was later called to return to service in the U.S. Reserve Corps where he served a year in Pusan, Korea during the Korean War. Upon being honorably discharged from the service, Pete attended the University of New Mexico on the GI Bill and graduated in 1953 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He later worked toward his Master's Degree in electrical engineering at night school. Upon graduation he was hired at Sandia Laboratories where he worked in computer applications until retirement in 1992. Pete was a member of Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church, and a member of the Knights of Columbus as a 4th degree Knight. Pete was also a member of Toastmasters International where he enjoyed presenting humorous and inspiring speeches, and won many awards for his speeches. He enjoyed horse racing, sporting events, working on computers and spending time with his grandsons. Pete will be remembered for his loving patience, understanding of others, and his sense of humor. He will be missed as a strong and influential presence in the lives of his family. May he be forever with the Lord. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Rosary will be recited Friday, September 13, 2002, 7:00 p.m., at Our Lady of The Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas and Tennessee NE. Memorial Mass will be celebrated Saturday, September 14, 2002, 10:00 a.m, at Our Lady of The Assumption Catholic Church, Lomas and Tennessee NE. Arrangements by French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE.
