Obituary for Briggs

Floyd Odell Briggs, 76, a retired contractor died Tuesday, September 24, 2002. He was born in Center, TX on June 26, 1926. In November 1930 he moved with his family to New Mexico, where he resided for the rest of his life. He attended High School in Stanley, NM, and then served in the Navy Sea Bees, stationed in Okinawa. Upon returning to New Mexico, he moved to Albuquerque where he owned Briggs Shamrock Service Station, and later Briggs Concrete Contracting Company. As a superintendent, he was employed by Kent Nowlin Construction Company and then Neilson's Construction Company, retiring in 1990. Floyd Odell Briggs is preceded in death by his father, A.B. Briggs; mother, Bertha Briggs; brother, Jess Briggs; son, David Briggs; and an infant daughter, Patty. His survivors are daughter, Sherry Briggs of Fort Worth, TX; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Debbie Briggs of Albuquerque; daughter-in-law, Janet Briggs of Wichita Falls, TX; sister, Opal Opperman; and nephews, Gayle Hal and Paul Opperman. Services will be held Monday, 10:00 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Rev. Hal Opperman officiating. Interment will take place at 1:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Howard Calkins, L.J. Goar, Tommy Morris, Nick Serna, Paul Opperman and Mike Briggs.
