Obituary for Stearnes

Billy D. Stearnes, 68, our beloved husband Dad, Grandpa, Pappaw and Brother passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2002. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Willa; his son, Mike and daughter-in-law, Sylvia, grandchildren, Chase, Kiersten, Arlen and Audrey of Albuquerque; his son, Bob, and daughter-in-law, Jennifer, grandchildren, Cameron, Dillon, Annie, Landon and Hannah of Gilbert, AZ; brother, Bob Stearnes of Sikeston, MO; sister-in-law, Jenna Richards; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Wanda and Ed Spivey of St. Augustine, FL; and very special nephews, nieces, cousins and many wonderful friends. Mr. Stearnes was born March 17, 1934 in Sikeston, MO to Charles and Helen Stearnes who preceded him in death. He served in the US Army. Bill graduated from UNM's School of Engineering in June 1971. He was employed as an engineer with the Department of Defense, where he retired September 1996 as Chief, Nuclear Aircraft Systems Branch, Nuclear Weapons and Integration Division. Mr. Stearnes will be remembered forever for his great love of family, friends and life. He loved the Jemez Mountains and Alaska where he spent much of his family and leisure time. That leisure time included a love of fly-fishing, hunting and ATV riding. He was very proud to have been a member of Sons of the American Revolution. Services will be held Friday, October 25, 2002, 2:00 p.m., at Sandia Baptist Church, 9429 Constitution Ave. NE with Dr. Bob Butler officiating. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Larry Lawrence, Troy Miller, Denny Gallegos, Craig Pinnell, Tony Kosinski, Paul Southward and Jack Stayton. Arrangements by French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel.
