Obituary for Illanes

Greg H. Illanes, Albuquerque native and a retired IRS agent, died October 27, 2002 at home in Albuquerque. He is survived by his wife, Jeanie Powell-Illanes; sister, Liesl Meyers, and her husband, Chuck; and their daughters, Anne and Heidi, all of Albuquerque; numerous cousins and many good friends. A 1974 alum of Highland High School, Greg graduated from the University of New Mexico in 1984 with a major in accounting. He took a position as an employment tax specialist with the US Internal Revenue Service in 1984 and was held in high esteem by his co-workers. Greg also held the office of Vice President and Steward, National Treasury Employees Union, Albuquerque Chapter. Greg was born April 29, 1956 in Albuquerque, NM, the only son of Gregorio H. Illanes, II and Marcella"Heidi" Wilberg Illanes. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, November 1, 2002 at 1:30 p.m. in the afternoon at First Presbyterian Church, 215 Locust NE with the Rev. Dr. Paul Debenport officiating. The remains have been cremated. Greg's ashes will be released along the California coast where many of his childhood memories were shaped.
