John Anthony Sedillo, 65, passed away peacefully, Monday, November 4, 2002, after a short illness. He was born May 19, 1937 to Juanita and Erminio Sedillo of Old Town, Albuquerque. John attended San Felipe Elementary School and St. Marys High School. Following high school, he entered the U.S. Navy in July 1954 and was assigned to the U.S.S. George K. McKenzie. After being honorably discharged in May 1958, he was employed by Albuquerque Southern Union Gas Company. In 1974, John took a transfer to continue his career with Southern Union Gas in El Paso, TX as Supervisor of Construction. He retired in 1996 as Superintendent, returning to Albuquerque in 1999. John was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandfather; and a friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all. John is survived by his wife of 46 years, Helen, who was his high school sweetheart; his three daughters and their families, Christine and husband, Mike Campos and their daughters, Stephanie and Andrea of Pflugerville, TX, Marie and husband, Pete Baeza and their daughter, Lia and son, Jonathan of El Paso, TX, and Lisa Richter and her son, Danny and daughter, Shelly of Amelia, OH. John is also mourned by his brother, Joe Sedillo; sisters, Mary Gonzales and Stella Madrid; many nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Margaret Sanchez. John and Helen enjoyed traveling to many parts of the world. Along the way, they made many long-lasting friends from their cruises and tours. We would especially like to give our thanks to Sun Tours for all our fond, special memories. John was very active as a volunteer in several organizations. His dedication began in El Paso at the Columbia Hospital and also as a Court Appointed Special Advocate in Children's Court (C.A.S.A.). When returning to Albuquerque his volunteering service continued at St. Joseph Hospital. He loved being their mailman and being on the Medical Advisory Council. John continued as a C.A.S.A. Representative from 1997-2002. John was also on the Advisory Council for the Department of Senior Affairs from 1999-2002. He worked with the A.A.R.P. from 1998-2001 and also as a Docent for the Hispanic Cultural Center, 2000-2002. Mass will be celebrated, Friday, November 8, 2002, at 10:00 a.m., at Risen Savior Catholic Community, 7701 Wyoming Blvd. NE. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. John will be greatly missed by all that were touched by his kindness and love. Safely Home I am home in Heaven, dear ones; Oh, so happy and so bright! There is perfect joy and beauty In this everlasting light. Then you must not grieve so sorely, For I love you dearly still; Try to look beyond earth's shadows, Pray to trust our Father's Will. Your love will always remain in our hearts, till we meet again. Your loving wife, Helen.
