Obituary for Ahlgrim

¯IN MEMORY Max Rogers Ahlgrim, 89, passed away at St. Joseph Care Center October 24, 2002. Max was born August 24, 1913 in Shelby, Indiana and named for his paternal grandfather, Max, and his mother's maiden name Rogers. In 1920, Max was in a tragic train/car accident in which his mother and younger brother, Charles, were killed. His despondent father, who was a very successful contractor, joined his older brother, Robert and his younger brother, Bert on a trek from Chicago to Santa Monica, CA. Upon reaching Albuquerque, Max's father found work as a carpenter and stayed. In 1921, Max's grandmother took Max and brother Wesley, by train, to their father in Albuquerque. Max has been a resident of Albuquerque since that time except for a few years when he worked in Las Vegas, NV helping to construct a nuclear complex. Max graduated from Albuquerque High School in 1932 and joined his father in the building trades. In 1936, he married his wife, Inge and was married 66 years. They had three daughters Ursula, Paula, and Debbie. He loved to hunt and fish and enjoyed the New Mexico outdoors. Survivors are Max's wife, Inge; two daughters. Paula Dawson of Albuquerque and Debbie Morgan of Las Vegas, NV; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Survivors also include Max's brother, Wesley of Bosque Farms,; and 41 other Ahlgrims in New Mexico; and many other relatives in Long Beach, Hermit, Santa Ana, CA, Salt Lake City, Denver, Chicago, Lowell IN, Mass., North Carolina, and Florida. A private ceremony was held. Dear Max, May God Bless You.
