Obituary for Moreland

Clifton L. Moreland, age 79, passed away suddenly at his residence on Thursday morning, November 21, 2002. Cliff Moreland was born October 23, 1923 in McKinney, TX. He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a World War II Veteran. He was on the Board of Directors of the Tucumcari Federal Savings & Loan Association, a member of the Tucumcari Volunteer Fire Dept., Past President of the Tucumcari Quay County Chamber of Commerce, Past President of the Tucumcari Lions Club, a life member of the B P O Elks Lodge 1172 of Tucumcari. For 18 years he served as a New Mexico State Representative in Santa Fe. He owned and operated the Tucumcari Oil Company, was the Gulf Jobber in the Tucumcari area and owned and operated the Moreland Truck Company. Surviving Cliff Moreland is his wife, Marjie Moreland of Tucumcari; three sisters-in-law, Betty Skipworth of El Paso, TX, Earline Kalverweiden and Mardelle Moreland both of Tucumcari; and one brother-in-law, Ted Marshall of Truth or Consequences, NM. He is preceded in death by his son, Bruce Moreland; brother, Averly Moreland; and one sister, Janice Marshall. Funeral Services are scheduled for Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the First Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the family plot of the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dr. John L. Faith, David Hale, Bill Curry, Paul Quintana, Don Hofman, Calvin Litchfield, Jon Nunn, Jerry Culbine and Tim O'Quinn. Officiating will be Rev. Bob Miller, Minister, South Georgia Baptist Church and Rev. David England, Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church of Tucumcari The family suggest for those who wish, donations may be made to the Helping Hands Hospcie of Tucumcari in memory of Clifton L. Moreland.
