Dr. Robert O. Gathings, 75, beloved husband, dad, and grandpa, passed away quietly Friday morning, November 29, 2002. Dr. Gathings was born in Cedartown, Georgia. He came from a family of five medical doctors. Dr. and Mrs. Gathings moved to Albuquerque in 1956 where he began his medical practice. He truly loved his work to which he dedicated himself for forty years. Dr. Gathings is survived by his wife, Nedra F. Gathings; son, D. Rusch Gathings and wife, Yolanda Zamora-Gathings; daughter, Desiree Rachel Gathings and husband, Fredvic L. Zabala; grandson, Robert Brandon Zabala. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, 10:00 a.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3715 Silver SE, with Pastor Tom Beach officiating. As a testament to his life's work parents are encouraged to bring to the memorial service photographs of their children that Dr. Gathings delivered. There will be a display in the narthex of the church for the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donation be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 3715 Silver NE, 87108.
