Toribio (Grandpa Rodie) Martinez, 73, a lifelong resident of Cuba, New Mexico, passed away on Tuesday, December 3, 2002. Toribio was born January 23, 1929 in Cuba, New Mexico. He was a kind, gentle man. He had been a cattle rancher all his life, retiring after 65 years. Toribio enjoyed hunting, was an excellent marksman, loved the outdoors. He was a"true cowboy". Toribio was a Senior Companion for seven years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cuba, NM. He was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Martinez in 1984. Toribio is survived by his loving wife, Ramelia of the family home; four children, Patricia Martinez of Albuquerque, Emily Montoya and husband Leroy of Cuba, NM, Anthony Martinez of Cuba, NM, and Amy Martinez of Albuquerque; two sisters, Josephita Herrera and Liva Lucero; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 5, 2002 from 5 PM to 7 PM with the Rosary being recited at 7:00 PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cuba, NM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 6, 2002 at 11:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cuba, NM with Fr. John Boland as the celebrant. Interment will follow in the Catholic Cemetery in Cuba, NM. Pallbearers will be Aparcio Herrera, Bernie Martinez, Tom Raymond, Pancho Chavez, Waldo Gutierrez, and Thomas Lujan.
