Obituary for Kailey

Published in the Albuquerque Journal on Saturday December 07, 2002

Ross Kailey, 78, a longtime resident of Albuquerque, passed away at home on Wednesday, December 4, 2002. Born in Freeport, Illinois on August 1, 1924, he and his late wife, Ruth Helm Kailey, moved to New Mexico shortly after their wedding in 1948. Ross graduated from the University of New Mexico School of Business, and he and Ruth were blessed with five boys. Frogg was a jazz aficionado who traveled the country to attend jazz festivals and related events. His extensive tape and record collection of jazz masters was always a source of pride to him, and he was instrumental in bringing Louie Armstrong to New Mexico for a concert in the late 50s. He also loved to play golf, powering off the tees. He took great pride in the fact that he had successfully reached all greens on par 5's in 2 at all the municipal courses in Albuquerque! He enjoyed researching his family lineage and spent many hours scouring telephone books and libraries during his travels, looking for other Kaileys. Ross is survived by his #1 and Best Son, Jeff Helm Kailey, of the family home; Bixx Louis Kailey, his wife, Annette, and their sons, David, his wife, Gina, and Bernard, of Montana; Ross Jon Kailey, his wife, Kristin, and their son, Jake, of Santiago, Chile; Tomm Elmer Kailey, his wife, Barbara, of Albuquerque, and their daughters, Alison, a student at UNM, and Andy and Rachel Kailey Foraker, parents of Ross's first great-grandchild, Aubrey, of Virginia; and Timm Emerson Kailey, his wife, Bernadette, and their children, Rhiannon and Paul Ross, of Pecos, NM. He also leaves behind two special nephews, Eric and Max Kailey of Paris, France. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. in the UNM Alumni Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ross's name to the Robert O. Anderson School of Business at UNM.
