Obituary for Wheaton

Ernest Adam Wheaton, 84, a lifelong resident of New Mexico, died peacefully with his family by his side, Friday, December 6, 2002. He is survived by his loving family members, son, Howard Wheaton and wife, Loretta of Albuquerque; daughter, Linda Crooks and husband, Louis of Albuquerque; and son, Ted Wheaton and wife, Rose of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; dear family friend and 'adopted' daughter, Karleen Boggio Montgomery and husband, Ed of Santa Fe; and sister-in-law, Mary Wylie of Waverly, OH. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Anne Wheaton on August 15, 2001. Mr. Wheaton was born in Black Lake, NM near Eagle Nest and went to high school at Menaul High School in Albuquerque. He served in the Army Air Corps during WWII where he met his future wife, Virginia Anne Foreman. They married on June 17, 1945 and spent 56 wonderful years together with their family and friends in the Los Alamos and Santa Fe areas. All who knew Ernie were warmed by his kindness and generosity. During his many years as Treasurer/manager of the H&SS Credit Union in Santa Fe, he helped countless families and individuals improve their lives. He brought happiness to many less fortunate through his affiliation with charitable organizations such as the FOE and BPOE. Ernie was involved for many years in the American Legion where he served with great pride and dedication at Boys State and in many leadership positions including New Mexico State Commander. He received many awards of professional recognition for his distinguished service in State and National Credit Union Associations. Ernie enjoyed spending time with his wife and children traveling, golfing, bowling, and fishing. He was active for many years in the First Presbyterian Church in Santa Fe where he served as a Deacon. He was a beloved husband, loving father, and adoring grandfather whose legacy will be the never ending love of all who knew him and the light he brought into all of our lives. Services 11, 2002, 10:30 a.m., at Heights Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 8600 Academy Rd. NE, with Pastor Don Wilson officiating. Interment will take place at 2:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to NM Boys State, 1215 Mountain Rd. NE 87102.
