Obituary for Forton

Brother Peter Forton, OFM, died at Holy Family Friary in Albuquerque on December 4, 2002.¯He was born Leon Archie Forton in Lansing, Michigan on November 23, 1934.¯He served in the Michigan National Guard from November 1952 through October 1957.¯He entered the Franciscan Order in Cincinnati, Ohio in August 1958 and pronounced his first vows in Oldenburg, Indiana in August 1962.¯He made his final vows in August of 1965 in Detroit, Michigan Brother Peter served in Franciscan houses in Michigan, Indiana, Kentucky and New Mexico. He suffered a debilitating stroke in 1976 which affected his speech and mobility.¯ Despite these obstacles he remained optimistic.¯ He is survived by two sisters; Rita Kudza of Flushing, MI and Sally Rule of Clarkston, Michigan; also a brother, Matthew Forton of Artesia, New Mexico.¯Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Holy Family Parish Church, 562 Atrisco SW, on Monday, December 9, 2002 at 10:30 AM, a viewing will precede the mass.¯Burial will take place at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Albuquerque.¯Gabaldon Mortuary, 1000 Old Coors Drive SW in charge of the arrangements, 243-7861.
