Rufus H. Carter Jr., 93, died December 7, 2002. He was born in Raton, Territory of NM on October 24, 1909. Held degrees of Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of New Mexico. He was employed in various positions at various times by the State of New Mexico. He was a long time employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers working on both civil and military projects at home and abroad. Upon retirement, he accepted short term assignments with local engineering firms and he became active in civic affairs. Rufus and his wife, Mary Jane, supported the colleges of Nursing and Engineering for many years. A Memorial Service will be held in Carter Hall at La Vida Llena Nursing Facility, 10501 Lagrima de Oro NE, Albuquerque, NM on Thursday, December 19, 2002 at 20:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that contributions be made to the Carter Endowed Scholarship Fund, c/o University of New Mexico Foundation, University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, N.M. 87131.
