Obituary for Donahue

James Leighton Donahue, Lt Col, (Ret.) USAF, 59, a resident of Albuquerque, passed away December 22, 2002, after a long and valiant fight against cancer. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Donahue; daughters, Kari Garcia and Cristin Hanes; sons, Michael and Ryan Donahue; grandchildren, Devon, Miranda and Siera Garcia and Demi Hanes; former wife and mother of his children, Judy Donahue: father, James B. Donahue and stepmother, Lucille of Florida; sister, Kathleen Newman and husband, Steve of Florida; nephews, Rob Newman and wife, Judy and Jim Newman and wife, Heather; stepchildren, Leta C. Tripp and Shawn E. Tripp; and Jim's Dachshund Ruger, of 12 years. Jim is also survived by all of his in-laws, friends and co-workers who truly enriched his life and helped when he needed it the most. He was preceded in death by his mother, Erline Ann Graddy. Jim served 26 years in the US Air Force as an Explosive Ordinance Disposal officer. After his retirement, he worked for SAIC as a logistician/operations analyst. Although a quiet and strong man, he loved life, the Colorado Rockies, a good brand of Scotch, sunsets, the smell of evergreens, hunting and the love of his family. He was a lifelong member of the NRA and believes trust and integrity should always come first. Jim's favorite time of year was Christmas. Please celebrate his life during this season and toast him on that day. Special thanks to Dr. Heywood, Mary Roach, the UNM Nursing staff and UNM Cancer Center staff. Military Service will be held Friday, December 27, 2002, 2:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, followed by cremation. One day his remains will be scattered in Ouray, CO where he vacationed twice a year for the past ten years. In lieu of flowers, Jim's family requests donations to the charity of your choice.
