Mary Helen Carroll. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated for Mary Helen Carroll, 83, of Albuquerque, on Friday, December 27, 2002, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 1818 Coal Place SE. Miss Carroll was born in Baltimore, MD and was a longtime resident of Albuquerque. She died peacefully at home on December 21, 2002. She was very active politically, working for social justice as well as local ministries and charities and international social justice movements. She was an active member in Church Women United. She truly walked in the footsteps of Christ. She was a friend to the poor and a voice for those who had no voice. A former sister of the Medical Missionaries, she served as a nurse/midwife for ten years in Pakistan and India. She was also instrumental in building hospitals in India. After leaving the Order, she operated a midwifery clinic for women in the Albuquerque area. She is survived by two nephews, Charles C. and Joseph R. Milton of Ormond Beach, FL; Mary C. Milton and Suzanne C. Milton of New York City, Joan Thorsen of Montclair, NJ, and Patricia Christensen of St. Augustine, FL; several great-nieces and nephews; one great-grandnephew; and two great-grandnieces, as well as a host of very dear friends. She will be greatly missed. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the charity of your choice.
