Obituary for Birdsbill

Lawrence Birdsbill, a Hidatsa-Mandan Indian and a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict went to heaven on December 22, 2001. He was born April 18, 1913 to Plainhouse and Anthony Birdsbill on the Ft. Berthold Indian Reservation, ND. He married Geraldine Henson February 4, 1939 in St. Michaels, AZ. Throughout his life he displayed a kind heart and a most generous nature. He will be deeply missed by all those who were lucky enough to have their lives touched by this wonderful man. He was honored in July 2001 by the Friends Organization for his philanthropic and volunteer work. He was a VAMC volunteer for 38 years. He was a past Commander, VFW Post 401; a member of the Military Order of the Cooties No. 7; a past Commander, Disabled American Veterans Post 3; a member of an all Indian American Legion Post 300. He was a member of the Haskell Indian Club, the Cherokee Club and the Claremore OK Elks Club. He was a retired accountant from Kirtland Air Force Base. Lawrence is survived by his wife, Jerry; daughters Jerry Ruth (Bird) Ford and husband, Jim, Deanna Lubarsky and husband, Michael, and Delores Fredrickson; son, Dean Birdsbill; grandchildren, Nicole Vanacore and husband, Russell; Rebecca, Sarah and Larissa Ford; DeAnn and Anthony Birdsbill; Darrand Fredrickson; Delyse and Kent Nelson; Dacia and Tom Fiechtner; great grandchildren, Alexander Lawrence and Andrew Jerald Vanacore; Joseph and Timothy Nelson; favorite nieces, Blanche Robertson and Judy LaDeaux and many other nieces and nephews whom he also loved. A Rosary will be recited on Sunday, December 23, 2001 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary, Wyoming Blvd. Chapel, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, with Father Julian Rousseau, reciting. A Memorial Mass will be in Albuquerque celebrated at a later date. Wake and burial will be held on the Ft. Berthold Reservation in North Dakota. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 7121 Wyoming Blvd. NE, on Sunday, December 23, 2001 from 4:00 p.m. until Rosary.
