Obituary for Rupert

Norman M. Rupert, born April 17, 1915 in Raton, NM passed away Tuesday, January 2, 2001 at Manor Care Heights Nursing Home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, to whom he was married for 57 years. They moved from Raton to Albuquerque in 1941. He is survived by a brother, Charles; sisters, Thelma Dwight and husband, Jesse and Mary Oldham; sons, Ronald and wife, Ann, and Richard and wife, Sharon; grandchildren, Randal, Russell, Carolyn, Rhonda, Michael, Christopher and Renee; great-grandchild, Gabriel; and nieces and nephews. Norman was a prominent Albuquerque businessman who started Rupert Plumbing and Heating in the early 50's, and was active in the business for over 40 years. He always enjoyed having a project, ranging from gardening, to building a large in-ground fiberglass swimming pool by hand. He cast and finished a scale model brass cannon, and held a US patent on a burglar system he devised. He was a member of the Masons Temple Lodge No. 6, the Shrine Band and was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 461. He also belonged to the Plumbers/Pipefitters Local Union 412, and was a past president of the Mechanical Contractors Association. Cremation has taken place. A reception will be held for family and friends Saturday, at the residence of Richard Rupert, 9523 Pebble Beach Drive NE, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to All Faiths Receiving Home, 1709 Moon NE 87112.
