Obituary for Cummings

Donald Herbert MD- Dr. D. H. Cummings died December 27, 2000 at his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he was 77. Born in Springfield, Massachusetts on Auguust 31, 1923, the son of Herbert Kimball Cummings and Gertrude Smith Cummings. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Lucy Lee Ward Cummings, and is survived by his sister, Dorothy Cummings Brincefield; brother, David Kimball Cummings; his children, Christopher Ward and his wife, Barbara, Mark Kimball Cummings, Phillip Andrew and his wife, Donna Marie, and Bruce Douglas and his wife, Mary Kathleen; and grandchildren, Brandon Christian, Shaun Michael, Benjamin Robert, Andrew Ward, Daniel Alexander, and Emilyann Cummings; together with several nieces, nephews, and their children. Dr. Cummings was a graduate of the University of Chicago School of Medicine and served in the United States Army Medical Corps. After discharge in 1955, he worked as a physician and surgeon in Pineville, West Virginia. He and his family moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1958 when he accepted a position in General Medicine with the then-fledgling Lovelace Clinic. He attended the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, assisted by a National Institute of Mental Health fellowship, completing a residency in Psychiatry in 1965. Returning to Lovelace, where he became Chief of Psychiatry, a position he held until entering private practice which he continued up to his death. A Memorial Service is planned for 6:00 p.m. Thursday, January 4, 2000 in the University Chapel of French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd NE, Albuquerque NM Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetary.
