Rosary services for John A. Rivera, 64, of Amarillo will be at 7:00 P.M., Monday, July 2, 2001 in Sanders Funeral Home Memorial Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 3, 2001 in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Officiating will be the Reverend David R. Cruz. Burial will be in Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. Mr. Rivera died on Saturday, June 30, 2001 at his residence in Amarillo. He was born on January 21, 1937 in Trinidad, Colorado and moved to Lubbock in 1938, he moved to Amarillo in 1997. He married Sarah J. Garcia on September 11, 1959 in Lubbock. He attended Lubbock High School, El Paso Community College, South Plains College, and Draughn's Business School. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and served as an Altar Boy there. He became a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church, and served as parish counsel. He became a member of the Knight's of Columbus in Lubbock and Houston. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society. He Owned S & J catering where he sold Burritos, he was known as the"Burrito Man." Survivors include; his wife Sarah of Amarillo; three sons, Jerry Rivera of Hobbs, New Mexico, Richard Rivera of San Angelo, and Alex Rivera of Deer Park, texas; two daughters. Annette Tah of Glendale, Arizona, and Felisha DeLaCruz of Albuquerque, New Mexico; a brother, Joe A. Rivera of Amarillo; two sisters, Felipa Cantu of Lubbock, and Mary Leos of Lubbock; eight grandsons and two granddaughters. Pallbearers will be Freddie Torres, Michael Rivera, Gabriel Rivera, Jody Leos, Tony Rivera, and Albert Hernandez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Manuel Davila, Marcos Hernandez, Bill Avilez, Jesus Valdez, Sonny Rivera, and Richard Lopez. The family suggests memorials be made to the Angels of Mercy.
