Obituary for Nickelson

Doris Leora Nickelson, 75, a resident of Los Chavez, NM peacefully passed away after an extended illness on Wednesday, June 27, 2001. Doris was a member of the Valencia County Cooperative Extension Homemaker (currently named Family and Community Education) since 1990, serving as chairperson for two years; Superintendent of Needlework with the Valencia County Fair between the years of 1993 - 1996; American Sewing Guide member since 1996, forming a neighborhood chapter; Breakfast Optimist Club of Belen member since 1999, and Co-Wagonmaster of the Chuckwagon. Doris was awarded Optimist of the Year for 2000. She served as Board Member for the Socorro County Senior Citizens program between the years of 1982 - 1988, serving as President and Treasurer at various times; and a member of the 200 & 600 Women's International Bowling Conference and State Champion Scratch team in 1967 - 1977. She is preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Cora Goodgame. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Loyd of the family home; four children, Monicarol Nickelson of CA and formerly of Newton, Kansas, Jeffery of Los Chavez, Gregory of AZ, and Timothy of Utah; five loving grandchildren, Tamara White, Scott Nickelson, Amanda Wilcken, Tyler Nickelson, and Evan Walker; two great-grandchildren, Bethany and Eliza Wilcken; and one brother, Leonard Franklin Goodgame, of WA. Cremation has taken place with a Visitation on Saturday, 10:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at Romero Funeral Home followed by a Memorial Service at 11:00 a.m. Romero Funeral Home, Belen, NM.
