Obituary for Johnson

Chris Wayne Johnson former Albuquerque resident, died Sunday, July 15,2001 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Ponca City, OK. He was 49. The Funeral Service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at the First Lutheran Church with Pastor Tom Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Trout Funeral Home. Chris was born July 27, 1951 in Borger, Texas to Walter and Lenora Marie (Reinking) Johnson. He attended elementary school and graduated from Borger High School. He received an AAAS Degree in Radio Production from Amarillo College, Amarillo, Texas and attended West Texas State University, Canyon, Texas, receiving Bachelor Degrees in Mass Communications and Journalism. His broadcasting career began at age 14 at radio stations in Borger. He continued to work through college at KACV-FM and KFDA TV stations in Amarillo. He taught radio at Amarillo College and was responsible for the college student radio station. In 1986, Chris moved to Corpus Christie, TX and served as Operations Manager for KZTV and also KVTV in Laredo, TX. He went to KNME (PBS) in Albuquerque, NM as Operations Manager in 1989 and moved to Orlando, FL in 1996 to make operational WNTO-TV station in Daytona Beach and Melbourne, FL. In Fort Worth, TX he completed his education at Elkins Institute, holding a lifetime General Operator License. Spending time with his family was something he really enjoyed. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He is survived by his daughter, Lyndsie Marie Johnson; and his mother, Lenora (Reinking) Veloz, both of the home; a brother, Walter Stephen Johnson of Dallas, TX; his father and step-mother, Walter and Vernece Johnson of Dumas, TX; two step-sisters; a step-brother; many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and a step-brother. The family will be at 1305 Chestnut Avenue, Ponca City, OK, 74601. Contributions may be made for the educational fund of Lyndsie Marie Johnson, Home National Bank, 2nd and Grand, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601
