Obituary for Sauerhoff

Doris K. Sauerhoff passed away at her home in San Rafael, CA, at the age of 79 after a long battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry W. Sauerhoff, Jr. She was a devoted mother to Diane Ellison, Karen Hayes, Harry Sauerhoff III; and sons-in-law, Robert O. Ellison and Wayne Hayes (deceased). She was the beloved grandmother of Nathan Hayes, Aaron Sells (deceased), Stella Ellison, Gregory Ellison, Janice Connick; and great-grandmother of Sam Hayes, Lydia, Wyatt, Bobby and Buck Ellison, Diane, Brandon, and Tonya Connick; she leaves sisters, Louise Hadley, of Lake City, FL, and Ruth Garcia-Diaz of Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico; and brother-in-law, David Post of Seminole, FL; along with many nieces and nephews. Her sister, Midge Post preceded her in death. Born and raised in Puerto Rico where she attended the University of Puerto Rico for two years (secretarial course) and afterwards worked for the Army Corps of Engineers. After marrying at 21, she discovered her calling as a wife, homemaker, and later a mother. Her husband was in the Army for nine years and they lived in numerous places in the U.S. and Panama (two years). She had a wonderful voice and was in numerous operettas, musical productions, and plays. She has a tender heart for the less fortunate and worked behind the scenes in soup kitchens, also cared for the sick and needy wherever she resided. They lived over 35 years in New Mexico and one of the thrills of her life was taming and raising two cheetah cubs at the Albuquerque Zoo. For many years, she and her husband spent most of their spare time in church activities. She was a lover of Israel and a great friend of the Jewish people. They moved to the Aldersly Retirement Home in San Rafael, CA the last five years of her life. Her best friend was Jesus. She will be sorely missed by her family and a host of friends. Funeral Services will be held at the National Cemetery in Santa Fe, on Friday, July 20, 2001 at 3:00 p.m. There will be a viewing of the body at French's Mortuary 1111 University NE, on Thursday, July 19, 2001 from 9:00 a.m. 9:00 p.m. There will also be a California Memorial Service at Lucas Valley Community Church 2000 Las Gallinas Ave., San Rafael, on Sunday, July 29, 2001 at 6:00 p.m. Keaton Mortuary 1022 E St. San Rafael, CA 94901. 415-453-0571.
