Obituary for Harris

Charles J. Harris, 78, a resident of Albuquerque since 1948, loving, warm and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend, died Thursday, June 7, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Joann Harris; sons, David Harris and wife, Linda, all of Albuquerque and John Harris and wife, Fay of Chama; sister, Berniece Davis and husband, Ken of Naples, FL; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and friends. Charles was a graduate of Purdue University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Phi and played varsity football. He was a member of Hoffmantown Church and Kiwanis. Charles was a longtime volunteer of New Mexico Museum of Natural History and former board member of Heights YMCA. He was a retired engineer from the New Mexico State Highway Department. Charles enjoyed traveling, Lobo basketball and volunteer work in his retirement. Services will be held Monday, 10:30 a.m., at French Mortuary, University Blvd. Chapel, 1111 University Blvd. NE, with Pastor Rick Donaho officiating. Interment will take place at 1:30 p.m., at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the UNM Cancer Center Program Development, 900 Camino de Salud NE, 87131. French Mortuary, 1111 University Blvd. NE.
