Obituary for Goldberg

Reverend Jean Ancona Goldberg passed away on Monday, September 10, 2001. Born September 21, 1911 in Rochester, NY, Rev. Goldberg was 89 years of age. She attended Wellesley College. In 1949, she moved to Albuquerque. She held jobs with the Eastman School of Music, Sandia Corporation, NM Department of Public Welfare, BCMC, and the Albuquerque Manor. Rev. Goldberg was active with the St. Mark's on-the-Mesa Episcopal Church for over 35 years. She was the first woman elected to the Standing Committee Diocese of the Rio Grande. In 1981, she became an ordained Episcopal Deacon and an ordained Episcopal Priest. She was on the Board of St. Martin's Hospitality House and the Hospice of the Rio Grande as an Advisor to the college chapter of SAI, Treasurer of the Youth Concerts of NM, and Board Member of the NM Symphony. Rev. Goldberg devoted her life to serving the community with love and compassion. She was beloved by many. Through her work, she exemplified unconditional love, understanding and humanity. She will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved her. Preceding her in death are her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Flinn Ancona; husband, Henry Goldberg; and grandniece, Nadine Cummings. Rev. Goldberg leaves behind her sister, Helen and brother-in-law, Irving Bergeson of Sun City, AZ; her niece, Maida and husband, Dr. John Cummings of Newberg, OR; cousins, Sally and Bob Blair of Taos, NM; and numerous relaitives and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the Albuquerque Manor on Saturday, September 22, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to St. Martin's Hospitality House or the Hospice of the Rio Grande.
