Obituary for Kijek

Walter Frank Kijek, a longtime resident of Albuquerque peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2001. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle. He is survived by his wife, Frances Kijek; three daughters, Casilda Hughes, Veronica C. Gallegos and husband; Ruben Gallegos, Sandra Kijek-Schult and husband; Allen; and one son, Michael Kijek, all from Albuquerque. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Robert, Joey, Timmie and Jimmie Hughes, Catherine, Ramon and Ruben Gallegos and Britney Regenold; his sister, Steffie Galleti of Moosic, PA is his only surviving sibling. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Walter was born on January 17, 1932, in Duryea, PA. He was eighteen years old when he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and became a weather communication specialist. His career in the Air Force took him to North Africa, Virginia, Texas, Alaska Taiwan, Turkey and Germany. After serving twenty years, he retired in 1973. He later went to work for the Department of Energy of Albuquerque. He retired from the D.O.E. after working there for twenty years. A graveside service will be held at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
