Modesta G. Fernandez, 80, a resident of Albuquerque since 1956, died Tuesday, May 29, 2001. She is survived by her sons, Frank Fernandez and wife, Martha and José (Joe) Fernandez, Jr, all of Denver, CO; daughters, Tillie Sanchez and husband, Louis and Consuelo Edmister and husband, Richard, all of Albuquerque, and Lorraine Sanchez and husband, Dennis of Taos; 13 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brothers, Joe E. Garcia and wife, Raquel of Pueblo, CO, Ernestino Garcia of California, and Ray Garcia and wife, Betty of Taos; sisters, Viola Fernandez and husband, Juan, Virginia Sanchez and husband, Luby, and Angelina Canales and husband, Richard, all of California. She was preceded in death by her husband, José (Joe) T. Fernandez on March 27, 2000; brother, Paul Garcia; and grandson, Carlos Sanchez. Mrs. Fernandez was a founding member of St. Bernadette Catholic Church. Rosary will be recited Sunday, June 3, 2001, 7:00 p.m., at French Mortuary, Lomas Blvd. Chapel, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE. Mass will be celebrated Monday, June 4, 2001, 9:00 a.m., at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 11401 Indian School Rd. NE, with Father Domingo Gumpal, Celebrant. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Fernandez, Pablo Fernandez, Phillip Fernandez, Jesse Romero, Raul Sanchez, and Craig Ferguson. Friends may visit French Mortuary, 10500 Lomas Blvd. NE, Sunday, June 3, 2001, 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
